The Story Of... Sada K.

Christian R&B musician Sada K. is back on her feet, literally and spiritually, with her debut solo album, Long Story Short, which was released earlier this year. It’s been four years since Sada K.’s career almost came to a screeching halt, at 28 years old she was a member of the popular Christian group Press Play, when a severe knee injury threatened her ability to walk.

“I had to undergo two knee surgeries and months of physical therapy,” said Sada K. “I literally had to learn how to walk again, but not only did my legs get stronger, but my walk with God got stronger as well.”

This strength led to her hit single “Stand Up.” While in rehabilitation, she found herself unsigned but not uninspired. Wheelchair bound, due to her knee injury, she recorded the song with fellow musician Chief Wakil. The song was an inspirational R&B tune that helped Sada K. strengthen her faith and regain creative control, as well as shine a spotlight on her God-given talent.

Sada K. was born and raised in Kansas City, where music was always an integral part of her life. Sada K.’s family was a huge inspiration to her music career, led Sada K. to perform her first solo when she just 3 years old. Singing in church her whole life, this music path with her family and through God led her to a life in the music industry.

In 2008 she found herself a new gig as the lead singer of the popular Christian group, Press Play. She recorded two albums with them, NY2LA and World Anthem, and even toured with them as lead vocalist.  Once her knee injury left her immobile, Sada K. decided it was time to take control of her life musically and spiritually.

Once she regained her physical strength she got to work on her debut solo album, Long Story Short. The album was written and recorded independently with the help of her husband, and inspiration from God.

“God gave me a vision while I was recovering and now I’ve released my first solo album,” said Sada K. “Long Story Short is a reflection of my journey. Every lyric was wrapped in love and it’s exciting to share the love of God one song at a time.”

Sada K’s debut solo album is her testament to spreading the good news. With four interludes, and 10 songs, she hopes to spread a message of faith and love through her music. Faith, love and hard work is something that she has spent a lifetime learning and living.

“I truly believe Iron Sharpens Iron (Proverbs 27:17). As an independent artist, the experience was a lot of hard work, but it has made every step so much more meaningful,” said Sada K. “I wanted a refreshing sound that could connect with many people. I wanted the music to be something that people from all walks of life could truly enjoy. And I wanted the lyrics to have a message and touch the hearts of people right where they are.”

When she’s not recording music, Sada K. is still spreading the love of God, with her husband, who also acts as her manager. While she doesn’t have any children of her own, she loves spending times with her family and baby niece. She also dedicates her time to many organizations in Los Angeles, where she can get hands on with families that need love and support.  Sada K.’s calling to spread the good news is her true vocation in life, whether it be working with charities or through her music.

Sada K. has a simple message, that she sings through her music and lives everyday:

“Everybody, no matter what they believe, needs love and compassion and that’s what I wanted to share on my album: The Love of God.”
